Carolina is a 2004 romantic comedy directed by Katherine Fugate about a young woman named Carolina Mirabeau (Julia Stiles) who grows up in an eccentric family. Mirabeau and her two sisters, Georgia (Azura Skye) and Maine (Mika Boorem), have been raised by their grandmother (Shirley MacClaine). Carolina's grandmother, while good intentioned, has a tendency to meddle about the personal matters of the girls. The family is very fond of a young man named Albert (Alessandro Nivola) whom Carolina has known since childhood and the family pushes the two to get married. Albert is a smart novelist and has had been in love with Carolina for years, but Carolina only looks and treats him as her best friend. On the other hand, Carolina eventually gains an interest in another man whom she comes across at her job at a video dating service. Her new interest, Heath (Edward Atherton), is a well-to-do Brit man and much of her attraction to him is attributed to the fact that he is very normal compared to the rest of her family. Carolina soon finds herself in a love triangle that she must desperately work out without the unwanted advice of her grandmother.moreless
