Carrington is a 1995 drama about the relationship between painter Dora Carrington and author Lytton Strachey. During World War I, Lytton Strachey (Jonathan Pryce) meets Dora Carrington (Emma Thompson). Initially, neither cares for the other very much, but soon the young Carrington realizes that she has fallen in love with Strachey. A year later, Carrington and Strachey move in together, though their relationship remains almost entirely platonic since Strachey is gay. Carrington eventually meets Ralph Partridge (Steven Waddington), and the two marry. Though she loves Ralph, Carrington eventually begins having an affair with one of his best friends, Gerald Brenan (Samuel West). Strachey also takes on a string of young, male lovers, but none of the relationships seem to last very long. As time passes, neither can seem to find happiness with another person, though they remain the best of friends. When Strachey becomes seriously ill, Carrington must learn to deal with the reality that it is doubtful he will ever recover.moreless
