Casanova's Big Night is set in 1750s Italy and stars the legendary Bob Hope. A shy tailor's apprentice, Pippo Popolino (Bob Hope), wants to woo an attractive widow, Francesca (Joan Fontaine), but his shortcomings as a person prevent this. So, Pippo decides to become another person, the famed ladies' man, Casanova. What he fails to realize is that Casanova owes money to everyone around town, and his creditors are eager to find him and demand payment. Eventually, the creditors catch up to Casanova, but realize quickly that it is actually Pippo. One of the creditors, the Duchess of Castelbello (Hope Emerson), wants Pippo to continue playing the role of Casanova so he can woo the fianc''e of her son and bring back a petticoat with an embroidered crest. The hope is that Pippo will expose her as the gold digger the Duchess knows her to be. Pippo bumbles his way through the ruse with hilarious results and in the process wins the heart of Francesca.moreless
