1997
Rating:

Casualties is a dark thriller involving an abused wife going to desperate measures to free herself from a violent marriage. Former police officer Bill (Jon Gries) once saved Annie (Caroline Goodall) from a sadistic father, but he's trapped her into a sadistic relationship with threats of murder. Annie has given up trying to flee, until she meets Tommy Nance (Mark Harmon) in a cooking class. Recognizing Tommy as the killer he is, she concocts a plan to use Tommy to free her from the controlling Bill. Will Annie's plot free her from a life of torment, or will it only put her into the hands of a more dangerous man? This 1997 drama, directed by Alex Graves, keeps the audience engaged with suspenseful pace and effective performances from the entire cast. Mark Harmon, in particular, displays a frighteningly cold-eyed charm reminiscent of his role as serial killer Ted Bundy in "The Deliberate Stranger."
