Deep Water is a 2006 historical documentary directed by Louise Osmond and produced by Jonny Persey. This film tells the historical and psychological story of one of the nine competitors in the first solo non-stop yacht race around the world. The contest was held in 1968 and attracted a field of nine competitors. The competitor featured in this documentary is Donald Crowhurst. At the time of the competition, Crowhurst was a 36-year-old father of four who owned a struggling maritime electronics business. Despite his nautical inexperience, Crowhurst entered the contest because of the cash prize. To increase his odds of winning and despite the fact he could not afford it Crowhurst purchased a trimarin, the quickest boat available at the time. He set sail in the trimarin on October 31, 1968. The directors use Crowhurst original 16mm films, tape recordings and interviews with family and friends to reconstruct his treacherous nine month journey on the sea.moreless

One of the greatest adventure stories of all-time, Touching the Void recounts the thrilling, disastrous climb Joe Simpson and his mountaineering partner Simon Yates undertook as they set out to scale the previously insurmountable west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. Winner of numerous awards including a BAFTA for Best British Film, this critically-lauded documentary from IFC Films combines dramatic reconstruction of the climb and interviews with the two climbers it nearly killed. It was 1985 and Joe Simpson and Simon Yates were young, fit, skilled climbers. The west face of Siula Grande, remote and treacherous, had not been climbed before. Following a successful 3 1/2 day ascent, disaster struck. Simpson fell a short distance and broke several bones in his leg. With no hope of rescue, the men decided to attempt descent together. What followed is one of the most incredible accounts of tragedy, friendship and human endurance.moreless
