Cats & Dogs is the 2001 action/adventure comedy directed by Lawrence Guterman. Humans are well aware that cats and dogs, instinctively, do not like one another on most occasions. However, in this film that mutual dislike is taken to an extremely different level. Unknown to the humans around them there is a war raging between cats and dogs. Cats, led by criminal mastermind Mr. Tinkles (voiced by Sean Hayes), are determined to take over the world and prevent humans from adopting dogs at all costs. The dogs are aware of this plan and have a secret agent, Lou the Beagle (voiced by Tobey Maguire), who has been recently adopted by the Brody family. Mr. Brody (Jeff Goldblum) is working on a vaccination that would cure all human dog allergies. The cats feel this would favor dogs over cats as family pets and cannot let this happen. Lou the Beagle desperately wants to end the war for his sake and for the sake of all the dogs in the world.

Metacritic Score

  • 70

The New York Times Dana Stevens

Only a sourpuss could fail to be amused by this movie's sight gags and action sequences or to be charmed by its lighthearted good humor.

  • 50

    Variety Todd McCarthy

This comically intended battle of the species is family entertainment for families that will buy anything.

  • 30

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Irritating, childish and more frantic than funny, Cats & Dogs does manage some few pleasant moments, but they are not worth waiting for.

This movie was the grossest movie that I ever saw. It`s just toilet humor and dumb luck all the way. Plus, this movie makes Catwoman look decent to watch.
