The Census Taker is a 1984 American black comedy written and directed by Bruce R. Cook and starring Greg Mullavey, Meredith MacRae, Garrett Morris, and Timothy Bottoms. Husband and wife George (Mullavey) and Martha (MacRae) allow the census taker Harvey (Morris) to come in their house and ask them a series of questions. In their quiet suburban neighborhood of Appleton in Los Angeles, George and Martha rarely see anything out of the ordinary and are usually very pleasant hosts. When the census taker begins asking too many questions, however, George and Martha become enraged and eventually shoot him in the forehead. They then attempt to hide the body, but when a detective friend of theirs comes to visit, they must cover up any clues that lead him to the body. The Census Taker received poor reviews by critics and was not successful at the box office.
