Center Stage is a 2000 American dramatic film about group of teenagers enrolled in the American Ballet Academy in New York City. Jonathan (Peter Gallagher), the company's choreographer and director, is in a relationship with Kathleen, whom Cooper Nielson (Ethan Stiefel) used to be with. Cooper is also a choreographer and disagrees with the choices Jonathan makes regarding the piece chosen for the students to perform. Maureen (Susan May Pratt) is an excellent dancer and who discovers that perhaps dancing isn't the only thing in life for her. Jody Sawyer (Amanda Schull) is an unfortunately awkwardly shaped dancer who is extremely dedicated but lacks the natural ability to be chosen as one of 6 students that will join the professional company. Romantic relationships become entangled in ballet politics as each of the characters fight for their chance to become part of the company. Also starring Zoe Saldana, Elizabeth Hubbard, and Sascha Radetsky, Center Stage was directed by Nicholas Hytner.
