Central Station is a 1998 drama exploring the friendship that grows between a young boy and a bitter, middle-aged woman. Dora (Fernanda Montenegro) once worked as a schoolteacher, but her life has fallen apart and she currently works at a train station writing letters for the station's poor illiterates. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Josue (Vinicius de Oliveira), a young boy who was recently orphaned after his mother was killed in a bus accident by the train station. Dora initially rejects caring for the boy, but quickly has a change of heart and takes him into her home. Josue tells Dora that his father lives in northeast Brazil, and Dora decides to accompany him there on a bus ride so that they can be reunited. When they arrive, they learn that Josue's father has disappeared. Despite their disappointment, the two begin making friends in the small town and ultimately discover that Josue may have family of which he was not aware.moreless
