Movie Summary

Director:
Peter Askin
Released:
2011
Rating:
R
Adapted from the stage, Peter Askin’s CERTAINTY explores the feelings of a young engaged coupled named Deb (Adelaide Clemens) and Dom (Tom Lipinski) as they undertake a Catholic couple’s retreat. Designed to force partners to ask the tough questions about married life, the retreat soon requires Deb and Dom to confront their feelings about faith, family and the future. Filled with terrific performances and held together by Askin’s careful touch as a director, CERTAINTY is an ensemble film that takes the notion of family and places it under the microscope, allowing the drama and comedy to build as the story carefully unspools on the screen. A FilmBuff Presentation.

    The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck

Mixing soap-opera melodramatics with pithy one-liners, the film never achieves a coherent tone, with the uneven performances by the ensemble adding to the problem.

He might as well be describing the act of watching this grating round robin of connubial dysfunction and romantic disappointment.
