Chaplin Mutuals: Easy Street (silent), is a black and white comedy short starring the legendary Charlie Chaplin filmed in 1917. In the film, The Derelict (Charlie Chaplin), is down on his luck living on the streets of a big city. He heads to a religious mission for food and shelter where he is convinced by a beautiful woman to turn away from his life on the streets and to help society. Shortly after leaving, he answers a help wanted ad for a police constable, is hired, and assigned a beat on Easy Street. The Derelict immediately finds trouble in the form of a huge bully (Eric Campbell) who is stealing money from locals upon his arrival. He bravely rescues the people from the crook but has unwittingly made a dangerous enemy. Throughout the film The Derelict goes on to help the residents of Easy Street out of their sometimes comical situations.
