Chaplin Mutuals: The Cure (silent) pays homage to one of the many famous actors of the early twentieth century. In this documentary, Kevin Macdonald chronicles the rise to fame of Eric Campbell, better known as Heavy. His popularity was due in great part to the success of Charlie Chaplin's films in which he plays the central antagonist. This film reveals the reasons for his vast popularity and brings viewers back to a time when there was no sound to enhance the quality of a movie. As such, actors became famous much more so for their facial expression and talent in pantomime, the only aspects on which they were judged by the audience. The Cure pokes fun at Charlie Chaplin's inability to follow norms and social customs which cause him to butt heads with some of the other characters in the film. While there is no fundamental plot, the comedic genius of the film comes from several small situations in which the characters must work their way through.moreless
