Chaplin, a film from 1992 directed by Richard Attenborough, uses flashbacks to recall the life of Charlie Chaplin (Robert Downey Jr). The movie begins with Chaplin as a child living in extreme poverty. Not until he becomes involved with London music halls does he escape this problem. He then moves to the United States to compose several comical films including "The Tramp". The movie follows his life through both the good and the bad. His life is full of many ups and downs including a hard childhood, failed marriages, hard work, and ultimately success with his work. Other characters along for the journey include George Hayden (Anthony Hopkins), Douglas Fairbanks (Kevin Kline) and his mother (Geraldine Chaplin) who has mental problems. This film was nominated for three Academy Awards and three Golden Globes. Robert Downey's performance won him a nomination for best actor, and the film won the nomination for best score.moreless
