Chaplin is a drama film that was released in 1992 and produced by Carolco Pictures. It was directed by Richard Attenborough, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Hopkins, Dan Aykroyd, Moira Kelly, Milla Jovovich and Geraldine Chaplin. The film tells the biographical story of the complicated life of comedian and actor Charlie Chaplin (Robert Downey Jr.). During a conversation between Chaplin and the editor of his biography, George Hayden (Anthony Hopkins), we learn, through a series of flashbacks, about Chaplin's life both personal and professional. The film documents Chaplin's disadvantaged childhood, his work with the music hall in London, his move to the USA, his marriages, and his achievement of global fame. The movie is based on the books "Chaplin His Life and Art" by David Robinson and Charles Chaplin's autobiography. The film's story was created by Diana Hawkins and the screenplay was written by William Boyd, Bryan Forbes and William Goldman.
