Charley Varrick (1973) is a crime crime drama directed by Don Siegel and based on the novel  The Looters by John Reese. Freelance pilot (and small-time thief) Charley Varrick and his somewhat disturbed accomplice Harman Sullivan get in over their heads when they rip off a small town bank for a whole lot more loot than they bargained for; the bank is, Charley correctly deduces, a dropping-off place for Mafia funds. Bank president Maynard Boyle and underworld enforcer Molly are determined to get the $765,000 back by any means necessary - none of them legal. Can Charley stay ahead of them - and can he stop crazy Harman from fouling things up? The twists and turns of the plot keep changing our perceptions right up to the last scene.
