Charlie Chan: The Secret Service is a 1944 mystery film co-written by George Callahan and Earl Derr Biggers and directed by Phil Rosen. The film follows the title character Charlie Chan (Sidney Toller), a US Secret Service agent assigned to investigate the death of an inventor. The inventor, responsible for developing new technology to protect US and allied ships against U-boat torpedoes, hosts a dinner party at his stately Washington mansion. Despite having many shadowy foreigners in attendance, he refuses to allow any bodyguards in the room, afraid their presence would offend his guests. When he is discovered dead by means unknown, Charlie arrives as part of the investigative team. He begins his investigation, assisted by his children Tommy (Benson Fong), Iris (Marianne Quong), and Birmingham Brown (Mantan Moreland), a chauffeur for one of the party guests. When it's discovered that the inventor was in fact electrocuted, Charlie and his investigators must deduce the identity of the perpetrator and detain them.moreless
