Checkpoint is a high-octane melodrama, filmed in scenic Italy. It follows the life of an overly-ambitious racecar driver, Bill Fraser (Anthony Steel), who has fallen on hard times and becomes desperate enough to take on illegal work. A shady purchasing agent named O'Donovan (Stanley Baker) contacts Fraser and hires him to smuggle a set of blueprints for an incredibly advanced new vehicle over the Swiss border. O'Donovan makes no attempts to hide the fact that he killed to possess the documents, but names a price so big that Fraser's greed overpowers his sense of judgement. He takes on the job and races across Italy, narrowly avoiding his pursuers. As the spell of greed fades, Fraser realizes just how much of a mess he's in. If he succeeds, he'll become a very rich man, if not, O'Donovan will use him as an easy scapegoat for the entire thing, ensuring Fraser a very, very long prison sentence.
