Children of Paradise, or Les Enfants Du Paradis as it was originally released, is a French film that tells the tragic tale of a woman, Caire Reine dite Garance (Arletty), and the four men who vie for her heart. The most suitable is a mime, Jean-Baptiste Debureau (Jean-Louis Barrault), who manages to exonerate Garace after she was wrongly accused of a serious crime by performing an incredible display of talent in the theater. This movie does an excellent job of capturing the character and lifestyle of theater actors and performers of France during this time period. Children of Paradise, also takes viewers into the crime infested suburbs of the Boulevard du Temple, otherwise known as the Boulevard of Crime due to the rampant violent criminal activity that occurred there. This film, set in the 1830s, has been the recipient of many awards, one of which includes being voted as the Best French Film Ever in 1995 by a community of professionals and film critics.moreless
