China Gate, the 1957 Hollywood CinemaScope war film by the celebrated director Samuel Fuller, produced by 20th Century Fox, depicts the story of mercenaries who infiltrate the Chinese border to blow up a hidden Viet Minh arms depot during the French phase of the Vietnam War. A "half-caste" Eurasian smuggler, Lucky Legs (Angie Dickinson), cuts a deal with the mercenaries agreeing to use her connections to help them in exchange for ensuring her five year-old son's safe passage to America. The racist father of the boy, Sergeant Brock (Gene Berry), had abandoned his son when he was born with Asian features, feeling that a "half-breed" would not be welcome in America. Goldie (Nat King Cole) is also part of the multinational group of the French Foreign Legion who helps carry out this dangerous task. A talented cast bring this emotional and thrilling story to life as they go behind enemy lines and overcome racial prejudices.
