Choking Man is a 2006 drama, written and directed by Steve Barron. Jorge (Octavio G''mez Berr''os) is a young Ecuadorian working as a dishwasher in a shabby diner owned by Rick (Mandy Patinkin), located in Queens, New York. Above the dishwashing station hangs a Heimlich Maneuver instruction poster, which Jorge notices everyday. Jorge suffers from severe social anxiety disorder and as a result, is living a very humdrum existence between the diner and his tiny studio apartment in Harlem, which he shares with a domineering roommate. His world is shaken up however, when Rick hires a new waitress, Chinese immigrant Amy (Eugenia Yuan). Jorge is infatuated and tries relentlessly to overcome his extreme shyness just to talk to Amy so he can experience some human contact, which he both yearns for and fears. Unfortunately, Jerry (Aaron Paul), the diner's American cook and a vindictive ex-drug dealer, is also smitten with the new waitress and is not afraid to make flirtatious moves.moreless
