C.H.O.M.P.S. is a fun family comedy released in 1979. Brian Foster (Wesley Eure) is a struggling young inventor who comes up with the idea of a dog robot to guard his home. He secretly builds C.H.O.M.P.S. as his prototype. Brian has a rocky relationship with his boss Ralph Norton (Conrad Bain), which is unfortunate because Brian happens to be engaged to marry the boss' daughter Casey Norton (Valerie Bertinelli). The young couple hatch a plan to release C.H.O.M.P.S. on the market as a concept that will take the home security industry by storm, while helping Ralph's company stay in business. Ralph is reluctant to the idea at first, but eventually gives in. Casey and Brian do not count on the competition finding out about C.H.O.M.P.S., but somehow they do. The largest competitor to them in the security business, Mr. Gibbs (Jim Backus), discovers the secret invention and sends two inept crooks to kidnap C.H.O.M.P.S., and hilarity ensues.
