CHRISTMAS MOUNTAIN: THE STORY OF A COWBOY ANGEL is a cult 1981 family adventure drama directed by Pierre De Moro. A hard-bitten cowpoke (Mark Miller, in a role wonderfully different from anything he had ever performed before) whose sourness for humanity hasn't quite yet reached the point of no return, the struggling, mountain-dwelling sheepherder family he ultimately befriends in spite of himself, and the friendly apparition who guides him in his genuine change of heart. Witnessing injustice, he works to right it; facing his own prejudices, he struggles to overcome them. It's a simple, affecting story, well told, with great warmth and good humor - a wonderful film for the entire family. Veteran character actors Slim Pickens and Fran Ryan are superb, as always, while the late Tina Menard (Lupe) shines as we watch her character morph from cynic/skeptic to true believer, and Brian Poelman (Julio) is immensely appealing as a boy struggling to become the 'man of the house' in the wake of his father's death.moreless
