Set in the 18th Century, this film is often referred to as the Korean version of Romeo and Juliet. Chunhyang (Hyo-jeong Lee) is the daughter of a courtesan, while Mongryong Lee (Seyung woo-Cho) is the son of a governor. The two fall in love and marry in secret, knowing their families will disapprove. Mongryong is forced to leave for Seoul to finish his education, but he promises he will return to Chunhyang. After Mongryong leaves, the province's new governor, Byun (Jung-hun Lee) makes advances on Chunhyang. She refuses his advances, vowing to be faithful to her husband. Chunhyang is imprisoned and what happens during this time will scar her forever. The only way Chunhyang can be saved is by her husband. Will Mongryong return and save his wife?
