The City of Lost Children is a 1995 French adventure film directed by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. A scientist named Krank (Daniel Emilfork) is tortured by his inability to dream. He begins stealing children so he can obtain their dreams, but because the children are so afraid of Krank and his army of artificial cyclops, he succeeds only in obtaining their nightmares. Krank believes that through the children, he will be able to reverse the aging process of his body. A man known as One (Ron Pearlman) is a strong and fearless whale hunter who sets out to find Krank. His little brother Denree (Mapi Galan) has been kidnapped by the scientist and his army. An orphan, Miette (Judith Vittet) helps One on a strange and surreal journey to find Krank's home where he lives with his wife, Mademoisell Bismuth (Mireille Moiss), and his six cloned sons. Their ultimate mission is to rescue Denree and put a stop to the evil work of Krank and his minions.moreless

I am not one of you. But I have enough of you in me to pass along the word. Far out.

The movie is best appreciated as a collection of whimsical toys drawn from a fantasy grab bag that encompasses everything from Grimm's fairy tales to "Star Wars."

A vibrant, bubbling cauldron of breathtaking f/x, gross-out humor and in-your-face imagery.
