Clay Island a surf tale is the 2009 surf flick directed by and starring Clay Schmitz. Schmitz sets out to do something unique. He wants to take a tiny seaplane out to find pristine, untouched surf and document the whole thing on video. Starring alongside only his wife, Jill, Schmitz shows us breathtaking footage from the Northern California Coast to a tropical paradise, and some of the best surfing known to man. For the surf aficionado, it's hard to look away. However, as opposed to a simple look at surfing, an unexpected goof sends Schmitz in directions he had never intended. The story blends the passions of a true surfer with the excitement of an unscripted documentary that follows the waves wherever they go. Near disasters become part of the winding plot, so the film never gets dry. Schmitz says that he wanted to bring the viewer along for the ride, and he and his wife do just that.
