Movie Summary

Steven Spielberg
Close Encounters of the Third Kind: The Collector's Edition is the final effort of legendary director Steven Spielberg to finally restore his ideal cut of his decades-loved science fiction fantasy. Removing problematic footage and adding long desired material to solidify the film's form to its original intent, Spielberg now presents his picture as it was always intended to be seen. Telephone line repairman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss, Jaws, American Graffiti, The Goodbye Girl, What About Bob?) has his life thrown into complete disarray when, out on a call, he has a 'close encounter' with something he can't explain ' strange lights in the sky pinning him in a whimsical dervish of his truck brick-a-brac, which then leads to a high speed chase of the UFOs ' from whence forth, the everyman cannot return to his mundane existence. Having visions of increasing frequency of some enigmatic shape, his family life is turned upside down ' his job lost, his wife leaving him, all in pursuit of the knowledge of what the mysterious shape may be and if whether aliens exist or not. Soon, his obsession leads Neary and Jillian (Melinda Dillon, A Christmas Story), a single mother whose child has been abducted by the extra terrestrials, on a chase across the heartland to a spot where the most important meeting in humanity's history will take place ' Devil's Tower, Wyoming ' the mountain of Neary's visions'moreless
