Code 46 is a 2004 film which takes place in a grim, dystopian future. It is primarily a story about two people who fall in love despite all opposing odds. Code 46 was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and directed by Michael Winterbottom (Welcome to Sarajevo, Wonderland, 24 Hour Party People). In this futuristic world, people live under extreme governmental surveillance in grossly overpopulated cities. In order to travel to other cities, one must obtain a travelers "papelle". William Geld (Tim Robbins) is an insurance agent specializing in fraud. He is commissioned to travel to a neighboring city where he is to investigate a case regarding the production of counterfeit papelles. William meets a mysterious woman named Maria Gonzalez (Samantha Morton). Coincidentally she is also the insurance bureau's main suspect in the case. Taken away by her beauty and intelligence, William falls for her. A 24-hour passionate love affair ensues. Will William hide the evidence that incriminates Maria? Or will he turn her in, despite his affair with her?
