Cold Creek Manor is a 2003 mystery thriller directed by Mike Figgis and written by Richard Jefferies. Cooper Tilson (Dennis Quaid) is a good husband and father. His wife Leah (Sharon Stone) agrees with him that they should move away from the city to the countryside. Their daughter, Kristen (Kristen Stewart), and son, Jesse (Ryan Wilson), aren't very excited about their parents desires and despise the idea of moving so far out of town. A real estate agent talks the Tilson family into moving into a rundown estate in hopes of renovateing it into the perfect home. But when the mansion's previous tenant, Dale Massie (Stephen Dorff), shows up, the mysterious horrors of the property's past begin to be revealed to the family around every quiet corner. There are secrets Dale is hiding about himself and his kin. The Tilsons do not know what they have gotten themselves into, but do they want to find out?

Metacritic Score

  • 70

The New York Times Stephen Holden

The movie ultimately belongs to Mr. Dorff, whose villain is as frightening as any human reptile to have slithered onto the screen in quite some time.

  • 70

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

A lightweight popcorn movie, hardly the scariest of the year but with enough jolts to be satisfying. Writer Richard Jefferies' solid script emphasizes character and psychology over...

  • 50

    Variety Todd McCarthy

A woefully predictable imperiled-yuppie-family-under-siege suspenser that hardly seems worth the attention of its relatively high-profile participants.
