College, directed by James W. Horne, is a 1927 silent comedy. The black-and-white film opens with valedictorian Ronald's (Buster Keaton) high school graduation. Ronald is loved by the school faculty and his mother (Florence Turner), but his bookish ways and condescending manner make him unpopular with his peers. When he tries to talk to Mary (Anne Cornwall), a fellow student who he is infatuated with, she rejects him for star athlete Jeff (Harold Goodwin). Ronald then decides to attend the same college as Mary and Jeff, and once there, he tries unsuccessfully to become a campus sports star in an attempt to win Mary's heart. His obsession with sports causes him to neglect his academic studies and he is summoned to the college Dean (Snitz Edwards) to explain his declining grades. The Dean sympathizes with lovesick Ronald and makes him coxswain of a rowing team. Could an upcoming boat race be Ronald's last chance to beat his rival and impress Mary?moreless
