Is there life after death? There certainly seems to be for Mabel Lederer. Her husband, Hughie, has passed on and with him goes Mabel Lederer. For Mabel reinvents herself with a new name, a new town, and undertakes a slightly off-center new profession: "I dabble in the supernatural." This lovely adaptation of Shirley Jackson's unfinished novel stars Estelle Parsons ("Bonnie and Clyde"), Sylvia Sidney ("Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams") and a host of delightfully eccentric friends. A charming added attraction is the voice of deceased Hughie, portrayed by a famous popcorn celebrity (and Oscar favorite), "P. L. Neuman." (Paul Newman)
