Come Next Spring is a 1920 American drama set in rural Arkansas which depicts the relationship of a returning alcoholic to an abandoned family that has managed without a father for years. Matt Ballot (Steven Cochran) returns to his wife (Anne Sheridan) and mute 14 year-old daughter Annie (Sherry Jackson) and 12 year-old son Abraham (Richard Eyer) after many years traveling throughout the states trying to drowned his problems in alcohol. After arriving home, he finds that his wife's resentment over being abandoned is waning slightly and he decides to stay until next spring as a hired hand. During this time, he develops a relationship with his children and proves his worth to the town who had regarded him as worthless. Matt's complex nature and his relationships with his wife and children are revealed throughout the movie. Many heart-wrenching scenes show the reason Matt left town in the first place and how he recovers his life with his family and as a member of the town.moreless
