2004
Rating:
PG-13
Comic Book: The Movie is the hilarious 2004 mockumentary directed by and starring Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame. Donald Swan (Mark Hamill) visits the world's largest comic book convention in San Diego, Comic-con, to interview and explore the crazy world of comic book fans. His aim is to make an award-winning documentary about that eccentric and obsessive world. Along the way he runs into all kinds of real life stars, including Stan Lee, Kevin Smith, and Hugh Hefner. All of Hamill's interviews were actually unscripted, so the film has a life of its own and a unique sense of humor. Hamill, accompanied by a clumsy cameraman, stays in character and goes about trying to find out more about his comic book here, Commander Courage. He's trying to save the Commander from a (fictional) Hollywood studio that's out to make a movie about him and ruin the authentic, historical portrayal of the illustrated hero.
