Commandos Strike at Dawn is a 1942 war drama directed by John Farrow. The story starts off in a quiet small Norwegian town in the summer of 1939 prior to the start of World War II. Erik Thorsen (Paul Muni) is a peaceful widower with a young daughter who lives in the village and works in the fishing industry. Admiral Bowen (Cedric Hardwicke) is taking a vacation in the village with his daughter Judith (Anna Lee) and son Robert (Robert Coote). Judith becomes attracted to Erik and they plan to meet again the following summer. However, following the outbreak of war, the village becomes occupied by the Nazis. The Nazis abuse the wife of one of the villagers, galvanizing the townsfolk into action to form a resistance group led by Erik. Initially, the resistance led by Erik sabotages the efforts of the German occupiers. However, Erik is forced to take refuge in the Norwegian wilderness where he discovers a German air base being built on the coast. He resolves to escape to England so he can organize further opposition against the German occupation of his homeland.moreless
