Conan the Barbarian is a fantasy film from 1982 that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Earl Jones. It was written by John Milius and Oliver Stone and is loosely based on the books of Robert E. Howard. Conan the Barbarian is the very definition of a swords and sorcery film and it is considered the film that catapulted Arnold Schwarzenegger into one of the most famous and iconic actors in the world. The original Terminator film came just two years after Conan the Barbarian. The film is steeped in mythology, some coming from Robert E. Howard's books and some added by writers Oliver Stone and John Milius, including the scenes with drunken behavior and the Crom legacy. Conan the Barbarian tripled its budget so studio executives immediately demanded a sequel. Within two years, Conan the Destroyer came out also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger but it did not do as well as its predecessor.moreless
