Richard Fleischer
Released:
1984
Rating:
PG

Conan the Destroyer revolves around protagonist warrior Conan and his companions. The film begins with Conan and his friend, praying at a shrine in remembrance of Valeria, a dead companion and lover to Conan. They are then seemingly attacked by the forces of Queen Taramis. They defeat their attackers to learn that the queen was simply testing their skill. She asks Conan to accompany her niece, Princess Jehnna, on a mission for which she was selected. Conan refuses, but Taramis tempts him into accepting the task by promising to resurrect Valeria. Conan, Malak, and Jehnna begin their journey to acquire a special gem that only Jehnna can use. The jewel will allow Queen Taramis to make a worthy sacrifice to Dagoth, the god of dreams.

Metacritic Score

  • 75

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

Conan the Destroyer is more cheerful than the first Conan movie, and it probably has more sustained action, including a good sequence in the glass palace.

  • 60

    IGN

Conan the Destroyer is not an awful follow-up, just a mostly unnecessary one.

  • 38

    Miami Herald

Fleischer has missed his opportunities to get real comic- book style humor out of this movie. It could have been a lot of belly laughs -- but as it is, it's only an occasional snid...
