Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen is a 2004 comedy directed by Sara Sugarman. Lola (Lindsay Lohan) has a flair for the dramatic, although her life is actually very vanilla. When she learns that her family is going to move to New Jersey, Lola decides to make the best of the move. In a new town, Lola will be able to invent a whole new identity. Although Lola thinks her New York background is sure to win her some popularity, she finds that Carla (Megan Fox), the queen bee, is anything but welcoming. Instead Lola takes up with an unpopular but friendly girl, Ella (Alison Pill). When Lola starts threatening Carla's reign of terror a little too much, the popular girl decides to strike back by boasting about her tickets to a coveted rock show. Not to be outdone, Lola boasts about her own tickets. The only problem is that Lola is lying and if she wants to save her reputation and truly achieve her dreams, she will have to think fast and make some changes.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 80

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

At a time when crassness and dumbing down pervade popular entertainment, especially movies aimed at youthful audiences, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen dares to be smart.

  • 50

The New York Times Dave Kehr

    Modest, mildly engaging film.

  • 40

    Variety Dennis Harvey

Minimally funny comedy feels like a Disney Channel pic that got boosted to theatrical after Lohan scored a hit opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in the "Freaky Friday" remake.
