Conspiracy Theory is a 1997 thriller starring Mel Gibson as a man whose paranoid delusions may actually prove true. Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) is a taxi driver who obsesses over conspiracies and recites his theories to passengers. In his spare time, he publishes a newsletter that boasts five subscribers. During a visit with his friend Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts), a government attorney he is secretly in love with, Jerry reveals his latest theory: NASA is developing a weapon to kill the President. As he is leaving, he notices and trails a group of CIA agents, who kidnap him and knock him unconscious. When he wakes, Jerry finds himself tied to a wheelchair and trapped in a room with a doctor (Patrick Stewart) who drugs and tortures him. While hallucinating, Jerry remembers that the doctor has interrogated him before and manages to escape. With Alice also in danger, Jerry must discover which of his theories has provoked the government to seek him out.moreless
