Contempt (Aka Le Mepris) is a 1963 drama directed by Jean-Luc Godard. The film is about a down and out film playwright, Paul Javal (Michel Piccolo), who is hired to rewrite a failed script of Homer's Odyssey. Jeremy Prokosch (Jack Palance) is the shady American film producer heading the project. Fritz Lang, playing himself, is the future film's director and the original script writer, who refuses to sell out for commercial success. On the island of Capri, the group convenes to begin their work. Paul's beautiful wife Camille (Bridgitte Bardot) joins him on the trip. Prokosch shows his arrogance and decides he wants Camille for himself. As the drama plays out, Paul's love for Camille is examined and the compromises, deals and deceit that go into the making of a film are illustrated. This movie within a movie is appreciated as much for its script and characters, as it is for the stunning scenery on the Island of Capri.moreless
