Cottage to Let is a classic 1941 war story in which the Nazis come to Scotland. A Scottish estate suddenly becomes an important site when a few unlikely characters move in together. In addition to the usual resident, John Barrington (Leslie Banks), a couple of evacuees escaping the bombing raids in London move in. The Barringtons also agree to turn the house into a military hospital. Soon a fighter pilot from the Royal Air Force who has parachuted, Flight Lieutenant Perry (John Mills), joins them as their first patient. However, each of the characters has a bigger story to tell. Barrington happens to be one of the key military inventors in Britain, someone with top-secret information on technological developments that may change the course of the war. His butler seems to have far more interest in investigating the occupants than in tending to the house. Concern about military intelligence spreads as one of the residents is kidnapped, and the British seek to hunt down a Nazi spy among them.moreless
