Country Life

Movie Summary

Director:
Michael Blakemore
Released:
1994
Rating:
PG-13
Country Life is an adaption of Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" directed by Michael Blakemore himself, and is nothing short of thrilling. The setting is Australia in the 1920s when farms and family went hand in hand. Jack Dickens (John Hargreaves) and his niece Sally Voysey (Kerry Fox) have taken the ranks in running the family farm. They do this in order to lend help to brother-in-law Alexander Voysey (Michael Blakemore) while he is away pursuing his dreams. Alexander has been in London working as what was thought to be a renown literary critic. He has also found his wife in London in the form of a beautiful young woman by the name of Deborah Voysey (Greta Scacchi). The only problem is that Alexander has returned falling short in his goals and, out of desperation, looks to take the farm from Jack and sell the very thing that has sustained him the entire time.
