Courtship is a film that tells the story of Elizabeth (Hallie Foote), a young woman who is coming of age and experiencing her first love. This movie is set in Texas in 1915, where Elizabeth is ruled by her patriarchal father. Despite her budding passion for a young travelling salesman, Elizabeth remains composed in front of her strict parents, as she engages in debate with herself, her sister and her lover about what she should do. Elizabeth must decide whether to follow her heart's desires, or to please her parents, her lover, or others in the community at large. Meanwhile, the young man who Elizabeth has fallen for must work to gain acceptance from her parents in the hopes that the two lovers can marry. This character piece features long dialogues and monologues adapted from the stage play of the same name. Elizabeth's turmoil is set against a backdrop of small town America that helps round out this piece of family drama.moreless
