Cover Girl is a musical film about Rusty (Rita Hayworth), a chorus girl who dreams of a life in show business. While performing at a nightclub managed by her boyfriend Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), Rusty enters a magazine contest for the chance to be awarded the publication's highly coveted cover girl position. Rusty is approached by John Coudair (Otto Kruger), the magazine publisher, and offered the job. Although Rusty does not want to leave Danny, he recognizes that this is her chance at stardom and intentionally starts a fight with her so that she will accept the position. Rusty goes on to a successful career on Broadway and begins a relationship with another man, although she is torn by the memories and feelings that she still has for Danny. Directed by Charles Vidor, Cover Girl earned an Academy Award for best musical scoring and was also nominated in four additional categories.
