Cowboy is a critically acclaimed 1958 Western about two American ranchers on cattle drive to Mexico. Frank Harris (Jack Lemmon) is a Chicago hotel clerk who dreams of an adventurous new life as a cowboy. His passions stir when he falls in love with the beauteous Maria (Anna Kashfi), the daughter of cattle baron and hotel guest Se''or Vidal (Donald Randolph). When a prosperous rancher named Tom Reece (Glenn Ford) returns from his latest endeavor only to lose his profits in a poker game, Frank Harris sees the opportunity he has been waiting for all along. He offers up his life savings of $3800 for a stake in Reece's next drive -- to Senor Vidal's ranch in Mexico. Along the hard trail south and back, the men learn a little about each other and a lot about themselves. Sporting the tagline "A man's not a man - until he's a cowboy," this star-studded picture is based loosely on events from a semi-autobiographical work of the real Frank Harris, a famous writer and journalist in his time.moreless
