Released:
1957
Rating:
Crime of Passion is a classic drama film directed by Gerd Oswald and released in 1957. This beautifully photographed film noir tells the story of Kathy Ferguson (Barbara Stanwyck), a young journalist at the start of a very promising career. When she marries a handsome but unambitious police lieutenant (Sterling Haydon) after only several dates, Kathy impulsively quits her job and exerts all of her energy in attempts to help her husband win a promotion. However, he's not nearly as driven as she is and seems content to let the chips fall where they may. Frustrated and disillusioned, Kathy realizes that she may have to break some ethical boundaries to get what she wants. Before long, her husband's boss (Raymond Burr) is dead, and Kathy is accused of the murder. Crime of Passion is a nuanced, feminist film that provides sharp social commentary on the state of women's roles in 1950's America. This film also must not be missed by fans of Barbara Stanwyck.moreless
