Critical Condition is a classic eighties comedy released in 1987. Directed by Michael Apted and backed by original Alan Silvestri music, it features Richard Pryor in the role of Eddie, a con artist who has just been framed as the fall guy for a large jewel heist (with supporting characters Rachel and Louis played by Rachel Ticotin and Ruben Blades, respectively). When Eddie's case reaches trial, he enters a plea of insanity, and consequently winds up in the hospital waiting to receive a mental health evaluation. While he waits to meet with a psychiatrist, a storm passes through New York, which makes all the hospital's power go out. In the midst of the resulting pandemonium, Eddie is somehow mistaken for a doctor and winds up in charge of the entire hospital. Denis Hamill, John Hamill and Alan Swyer wrote the screenplay for this hilarious Richard Pryor classic produced by Paramount Pictures.
