Movie Summary

Peter Faiman

Crocodile Dundee is an epic love story about the romantic culture-clash between a seasoned survivalist from the Australian outback and the pretty New York reporter who falls for him. Hogan plays Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee, a man whose exploits in the Australian outback make him a big enough legend to draw the attention of Newsday magazine's editors. Sue Charlton is a feature writer at Newsday, rapidly advancing her career through both her writing talent and her romantic relationship with her editor, Richard. Sue travels to Australia to meet Mick, expecting to find a deformed man with missing limbs from his storied adventures. She's shocked to find Mick is, in fact, handsome and charming, with only superficial scars to recall his dangerous encounters with wild animals. The two begin a tentative romance, and Mick follows Sue back to New York City, where he finds himself as confused and out of place as she was in the Australian wild. When Richard learns of Sue's affections for Mick, she's forced to choose between the reliable editor who'd help advance her career or the charming outdoorsman. Crocodile Dundee is a hilarious story about a man who is unstoppable in the dangerous wilderness, but just as confused as anyone else when it comes to love.

Crocodile Dundee is a breezy, fun affair - a trifle that is extremely pleasant to sample and leaves no bitter aftertaste.

The film would go nowhere without Hogan. He's a charismatic chap with a pleasantly minimalist approach to humor. [27 Sept 1986, p.E6]
