Crossroads is a 1986 film starring Ralph Macchio as Eugene Martone, a classical guitar student whose affection for American blues music leads him on a journey to find the missing work of blues legend Robert Johnson. Robert Johnson is a folk hero amongst blues musicians. He began as a mildly talented guitarist who would sing the blues around the Mississippi Delta as a young man. Then, he mysteriously advanced in skill extremely quickly. Legend has it Johnson went down to the crossroads, where he made a deal with the devil in exchange for his impressive new guitar skills. Young Juilliard student Eugene becomes obsessed with Johnson's story. When he learns an old musician friend of Johnson's is still alive, he sets off an a quest to learn the real story behind Robert Johnson and the blues. Joe Seneca plays the blind bluesman Willie Brown, Eugene's guide along the road to the blues. Jami Gertz plays Frances, another wanderer who forms a friendship with Eugene during the journey. Crossroads has earned a loyal cult following over the years because of its honest and modern look at the American obsessions with country music and the mythical figures that make it.
