Crosswinds is a 1951 adventure written and directed by Lewis R. Foster, based on the novel, "New Guinea Gold" by Thomson Burtis. Steve Singleton (John Payne) is hired to go out in his boat, "Seeker," along the coast of New Guinea in search of pearls. Steve is unaware, however, that his new boss, "Jumbo" Johnson (Forrest Tucker), has given him fake permits. This lands Singleton in a heap of trouble and he is put in jail. After his sentence is over, Steve befriends two boat-owners, The Hon Cecil Daubrey (Alan Mowbray) and Sykes (John Abbott). The three find a better treasure to search for; illegal, government gold that was being carried by a plane that crashed into the sea. They rescue one of the passengers of the plane, Katherine Shelley (Rhonda Fleming), and she becomes involved in the hunt. They are not the only ones looking for the gold, however, and their pursuit becomes increasingly dangerous and thrilling.
