Martial-arts master Li Mu Bai is out to search for answers to his master's murder. He is strong and able to handle almost anything except the girl of his dreams, Yu Shu Lien. Yu Shu Lien is a martial-arts expert in her own rights and Li Mu Bai asks her to transport an heirloom for his friend, Sir Te. This heirloom is the Green Destiny Sword, which is said to have special powers. The sword is transported safely but stolen soon afterwards, leading Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lein on a path to find it. The aristocrat's beautiful daughter, Jen, is intrigued by Yu Shu Lion and her exciting life, wishing it could be her life. Jen's father has set different plans for her as her pending arranged marriage is about to take place. Little does anyone know that she holds a dark secret and what she does at nighttime no one would guess, especially not her father.
