Dallas is a 1950 American western film directed by Stuart Heisler and starring Gary Cooper, Ruth Roman, and Steve Cochran. Set at the end of the American Civil War, the film tells the story of Confederate officer Blayde Hollister (Cooper) as he returns to Texas to avenge the brutal murder of his family. Because he has been banned from Texas, Hollister stages a gunfight and fakes his own death, assuming a new identity. With his new name, Hollister is able to return to Dallas, only to find that one of the murderers of his family is now parading around town as a upstanding citizen. Hollister knows the truth, however, and will stop at nothing to make sure that Will Marlow (Raymond Massey) comes to justice. As Hollister makes his way around town gathering information, the fianc'e of the local U.S. Marshal becomes a little too friendly, causing Hollister to make more enemies than friends while in Dallas.
